The Mission of TSS is to assist DSU to meet its assigned obligations and mission to the state. The Legislature established Dakota State University as an institution specializing in programs in computer management, computer information systems, and other related undergraduate and graduate programs as outlined in SDCL § 13-59-2.2. A special emphasis is the preparation of the elementary and secondary teachers with expertise in the use of computer technology and information processing in the teaching and learning process.

Therefore the Mission of TSS is to

  • Be informed of IT industry challenges and advancements occurring in America and the world;
  • Implement a systemic program of identifying industry, education, and government IT issues and workforce development needs in South Dakota;
  • Develop and deploy informational and workforce training programs and offer advanced technology support to address short-term needs;
  • Provide DSU students experiential learning experiences;
  • Use funds raised through contracts and grants, in excess of operational costs, to facilitate DSU programs.

Vision Statement

The vision for Technology Support Services (TSS) is

“Support the university in providing South Dakota industry, education, and government the trained information technology and security workforce necessary to improve individual productivity and organizational efficiencies and effectiveness.”

A highly trained IT workforce is seen as a vital component of the state’s 21st century economy and the ability of South Dakota industries to be competitive with other states and nations of the world.

Who is TSS

The Technology Support Services (TSS) is the technical outreach department of Dakota State University (DSU) in Madison, SD. The department's mission since 1985 has been to provide custom computer programming, computer support, training, and economic development services to K-12 schools, government agencies and private businesses.

There are three levels of computer support available through TSS.

Level 1 - hardware and software installation
Level 2 - network and user administration
Level 3 - network design and security

TSS provides on-site training to develop your staff to be self-supporting. Additional areas of support include K-12 e-rate consulting, developing technology plans and security evaluations. TSS can serve as an extension of your on-site technical staff by providing support on an as-needed basis allowing for timely completion of projects without the hiring of additional full-time staff. Custom computer programs can be written for your specific business needs. TSS professional staff can create your Web site and train client staff to manage future updates to the site. TSS approved training courses can be offered as non-credit, for-credit or CEU-credit courses.

TSS technical staff has certifications in Microsoft, Novell, and CISCO.

TSS is unique in the areas of support we provide. As the outreach department for Dakota State University our mission is to provide training and support that enable you to achieve success through the use of computer technology.
